My 1950’s Christmas party look is coming on a treat. This week, my latest vintage purchase arrived. It was so prettily packaged too. It makes opening it even more thrilling.
Earlier this year I bought a beautiful 1950’s red velvet dress and I’ve been on the look out for the right underwear to go under it. Managed to find gorgeous red panty girdle. Cost a fortune but it was worth it. Also purchased a beautiful white net petticoat and white fishnets all from the 50’s. I’d been on the look out for a red bullet bra and finally managed to get one. It’s the closest I’m going to get to matching the panty.
It all looks rather lovely and you can’t help but feel delightfully feminine and attractive. I’ve got the bag, I’ve got the gloves, all I need now is red cocktail hat and a hostess apron wouldn’t go amiss…..who’s bringing the Champagne….lol
I have always had a passion for pretty underwear even as a young girl in my teens. My chest of drawers would be stuffed to the gunnels with knickers, bras, teddies, suspenders. You name it…I probably had it.
Then I had my two children and afterwards I threw most of it away. My body had changed….I had changed…most of it didn’t fit any more. I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror.
Gradually my interest has returned, but it’s taken a different path….a more interesting one I think. I am absolutely in love with vintage. Etsy and eBay have been real eye openers. I have underwear pieces now from the Edwardian period, the 40’s and also the 50’s.
I can quite understand why women of the 50’s wore a panty girdle. If you’ve had kids you’ll know why lol.
It’s bit of history for me and yes some of the pieces that I’ve bought I have actually worn. I think they have a little bit of sauciness about them (or perhaps it’s the person who’s wearing them lol). You can’t help but feel very feminine and a bit flirty once you’ve squeezed yourself into your panty girdle and net petticoat lol…..
Whilst putting the washing away I got to pondering that “my smalls” were not as small as they once were. In fact my knicker coverage appears to have increased as I’ve got older.
Once upon a time my cupboard was filled with tiny lace thongs and frilly pants. Alas that is no longer the case. In fact I need more drawer space to accommodate my increasing size of “drawers”.
My preference these days is for the fuller cut brief. The pants that hold everything in and gives support in the right places. Ones that keep your bum warm, your bits covered and tummy supported. Let’s face it you can hardly tuck a vest into a thong can you?
So my days of flicking lovingly through the Agent Provocateur catalogue are long gone. Now I like to settle down with Damart….and a glass of sherry…………
